During events you can only get the event's currency from foraging and you get a varying amount of it each time (sometimes you get 5 sometimes you get nearly 20 or more)

Currency drops seems to either work as a refreshable pool or is limited by your place on the leaderboard, it's advisable if you have an alt account to forage in different spots if you use your turns at same-ish times.

I personally tend to priotize items that effect dragon appearences, items that raise all stats and items like sunflower seeds that allow you to catch elder dragons at the lookout! However, there isn't really a "wrong" way to use event currency, play the game how you want to!
